The Netherlands – Zuiderzeemuseum

Gery, Cor, Ella and I spent Sunday wandering around the open-air Zuiderzeemuseum in Enkhuizen. The best way to describe it would be a Dutch pioneer village, with houses and workshops and shops preserved as they would have been. The buildings have been moved to the museum from all parts of Holland to represent all aspects of traditional Dutch life. As an adult I was enthralled, so it must be amazing for kids. I’d recommend it to anyone.

Notice the "cupboard" at the back left of the room. Apparently people used to sleep sitting up in this kind of cupboard to prevent evil spirits from getting in through their open mouths. Plus, when you sleep lying down, all the blood will rush to your head and make you crazy. I'm not making this up.
