The Netherlands – The Hague, Rotterdam and Delft

Sunday night I left my family to squeeze a visit in with Gillan, an Ottawa friend who has just moved to The Hague to work at the embassy there. She is living 500 metres from the ocean, and looks over dunes at the edge of town. Lucky girl!

On Monday we went to Rotterdam in hopes of going to one of the huge art museums there… A closer reading of the guidebook would have tipped us off that nothing is open on Mondays in Rotterdam, so we had to settle for the walk of fame. Here's Gill with "Dave":


We chose to spend the afternoon in Delft, which turned out to be a great decision. Shots of Delft:

We found a little antique shop selling old Delft tiles and traditional Dutch skates. A pair of the skates made a perfect souvenir for a half-Dutch figure skater:
